Perché nebulizzare le piante da interno?

You water your Calathea properly and it gets enough light, yet the tips of its leaves still turn brown and dry out?

The culprit is invisible: it is dry air. Most of our indoor plants come from the tropics (80% humidity), while humidity in our heated homes sometimes drops to 40% in winter.

Watering hydrates the roots, but to save the foliage, you need to mist. Here is a complete guide to mastering this plant-care routine.

1. The 3 benefits of mist

Spraying water is not just about hydration; it provides all-round care:

  • Hydration: By increasing the humidity around the plant, you prevent the leaves from losing too much water through transpiration. The result: they stay supple and green, without dry tips.
  • Cleaning: The mist washes away dust that blocks photosynthesis. A clean plant breathes better.
  • Protection: Mites and mealybugs hate humidity. Regular misting is the best natural repellent against these pests.

2. Which plants should you mist (and which should you avoid)?

Be careful: not all plants like a shower!

✅ YES: smooth-leaved tropical plants

These plants love it! Mist generously:

  • Monsteras and philodendrons.
  • Ficus and yucca plants.
  • Ferns (misting is vital for them).
  • Calatheas and marantas (prayer plants).
  • Orchids (on aerial roots only).

❌ NO: plants with hairy leaves and succulents

If a leaf is downy or hairy, water can become trapped and cause mould. Do not mist:

  • Begonias.
  • Saintpaulias (African violets).
  • Cacti and succulents (which prefer dry conditions).

The art of misting

To be effective, the mist needs to be ultra-fine so that water does not run onto your furniture. Our brass plant mister is designed to create a light cloud.

  • ☁️ Micro-droplets: Hydrates without wetting the floor.
  • ✨ Decorative design: Made of gold-coloured brass, it is attractive enough to leave on display on a shelf.

3. How to mist plants properly

Which water should you use?

This is the crucial point. If you use tap water, which is often hard, it will leave unsightly white marks on the leaves once it evaporates.

The ideal choice: Rainwater. Otherwise, use water from a filter jug, or mineral water if you only have a few plants.

The right distance

Do not hold the mister right against the leaf. Keep it about 20 cm away. The aim is to surround the plant with a cloud of mist, not to pressure-wash it.

When should you mist?

  • Winter (heating on): Every 2 days, or even daily for ferns.
  • Summer (heatwave): Every morning to cool the plants.
  • Spring/autumn: 1 to 2 times a week is enough.

Turn the chore into a ritual

Taking a few minutes to mist your plants is a relaxing ritual. With a beautiful tool in hand, it is even better.

Bonjour, est-il avantageux de stocker de l’eau dans des bouteilles en plastique pour arroser les plantes sur mon balcon ? Recherche de l’effet décanteur ?
