Le 5 regole per annaffiare una pianta da interno
di lettura
Are your plants turning yellow, drying out or losing their leaves one after another? Do you think you have a "black thumb"?
Rest assured: gardening is not an innate skill; it is a simple science. The #1 cause of mortality is not lack of water, but often... too much love (and watering)!
Forget preconceived notions. Here are the 5 golden rules to transform your home into a lush jungle.

1. Don't schedule watering, schedule observation!
The classic mistake is to say: "I water every Sunday". That is the wrong approach!
Your plant's needs change depending on the weather, heating, or its growth. In winter, it drinks less. In summer, it's thirsty.
The right method: Set an alarm on your phone to inspect your plants, not to water them blindly. Touch the soil: if it is moist, wait. If the top 2 cm are dry, get out the watering can.
The tool for controlled watering
Watering with a bottle is imprecise (the jet is too strong). A watering can with a fine spout allows you to pour water gently, giving the soil time to absorb it.

2. Don't forget the leaves (foliage)
In nature, rain wets everything: roots and leaves. In your living room, you only water the base.
Yet, foliage needs humidity to stay supple and green (especially for tropical plants like Ficus, Monstera, or Calathea). This is where misting comes in.
Misting your plants recreates their natural environment and compensates for the dry air in our apartments.

The essential companion
Watering nourishes, misting hydrates. To avoid dry leaf tips, use a watering can and plant mister together.
- ☁️ Fine mist: Hydrates without soaking.
- ✨ Decorative design: In gold-coloured brass, it is as beautiful as it is useful.
3. Beware of wet feet (drainage)
This is the #1 cause of death: root rot.
If water sits at the bottom of the pot after watering (or worse, in a watertight outer pot), the roots suffocate. This is the 'wet socks' effect.

The golden rule: Your pot must always have drainage holes. Put clay pebbles at the bottom. And most importantly, empty the saucer 20 minutes after watering!
4. A plant is not a piece of furniture
In nature, a tree doesn't change its place. Your Ficus doesn't like that either.
Find it a permanent spot:
- Light: Enough to read a book comfortably.
- Draughts: Avoid high-traffic areas or windows that are often opened in winter.
- Heating: Never place it right next to a radiator!

5. Dust is the enemy
Dust accumulating on leaves acts like a sunscreen. It blocks light and prevents photosynthesis. A dusty plant is a suffocating plant.
The tip: During your weekly misting, wipe the leaves with a soft cloth. This cleans the plant's pores and keeps away pests (mealybugs, spider mites) that hate to be disturbed.
Get started!
You learn to garden by doing. Equip yourself with the right tools (a watering can and plant mister) and take the time to observe. Your plants will thank you.
