Come pulire un vecchio annaffiatoio

di lettura

Have you found an old copper or brass watering can at a flea market or at the back of your grandmother's attic? How lucky! These objects have a soul that plastic will never have.

The problem? Time has taken its toll: verdigris, rust stains, ingrained dust... It doesn't look like much anymore.

Don't panic. Before buying expensive chemical products, open your kitchen cupboards. We've tested a 100% natural method to help you restore its former shine.

1. Assessing the Damage: Rust and Oxidation

Here is our patient of the day. An old watering can that has seen better days. The metal is dull, pitted with rust, and covered in a dark patina that hides its true color.

2. The Magic Recipe (Lemon + Salt)

Forget toxic products. The chemical reaction between the acidity of lemon and the abrasion of salt works wonders on copper and brass.

Natural ingredients: lemon and coarse salt
  1. Cut a lemon in two.
  2. Generously sprinkle the cut side of one lemon half with coarse salt.
  3. Rub the lemon directly over the metal, using it like a sponge.
  4. Squeeze lightly to release the juice while you rub.
  5. Rinse immediately with clean water or white vinegar to stop the acidic action.

3. The Result: It shines!

As soon as you start rubbing, the oxidation disappears to reveal the original color of the metal (rosy for copper, golden for brass).

4. For Stubborn Stains: Grandma's Cleaning Paste

If lemon alone is not enough, create a more powerful abrasive paste with flour, egg white, and salt.

Apply the paste, leave it to work for a few minutes, rub vigorously, and rinse.

5. Do you love the "Gold" look, but hate scrubbing?

Let's be honest: cleaning copper is satisfying once, but it's a chore to do it every month (because oxidation returns quickly!).

If you love the look of vintage golden brass but want something easier to care for, we have the solution.
